How We Ended Up With a Park Model

It wasn't intentional, this buying of a double wide park model. We almost literally stumbled across it while vacationing in Southern California. The price was so good we couldn't pass it up. We spend a good amount of time in the area and since we had already found our little slice of heaven, we figured it was a good investment. We're hoping to spend several months each year in this park model and we wanted it to be nice.

This isn't our first reno. We have bought, fixed and flipped several homes before. We have had experience with that awful wall panelling found in most older mobiles. We knew what we had to do and we did it.

Here's our experience - how we did it, what we did, how much it cost and what we used to do it. You CAN transform your mobile home into a beautiful, comfortable place to come home to.

Some "Before" Pictures

Here is what we saw the first time we went into the home - your basic mid-70's doublewide. It's a Golden West Calypso with a really funky looking kitchen!

Some of these pictures aren't that great. The interior was really very dark, mostly I think because of the panelling. However, there were also drapes or curtains on every window and that really darkens a room.

The dining room -
I see potential! There is quite a nice full dining set and it's in great condition.
I just have to look past those tired panelled walls and the floral border running around the top of the walls.

Dining area/Living room -

Can you just see the buffet on the far left of the shot?
The dining area is quite large and has a good sized window.

It also has very tired curtains and some flower arrangements that need to go.

You can also see part of the Living room - same tired curtains.
There is no border along the ceiling so that's a plus!

It's very dark inside and that is probably just because of the walls.
Sure, this was a popular look in the 70's but now that we are well into
the new millenium, things have got to change.

Next up, before pictures of the kitchen and breakfast room.
